Research Assistant

Conceptual Glossary and Index to the Vulgate Translation of the Gospel according to Mark

 

£16,775 - £18,731 p.a. (pro-rata if part-time)

 

Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant on a British Academy supported project to produce a conceptual glossary and index to the Vulgate translation of the Gospel according to Mark.  The appointee will work under the direction of Dr. Andrew Wilson.  The main duties of the post are the lemmatization, semantic classification, and disambiguation of words within the Latin Gospel text, and the input of this information into a computer database.

 

This short-term post of ten weeks’ duration (full-time, part-time equivalent negotiable) may suit a recent graduate, or a student at MA or PhD level, who is looking for interesting and rewarding temporary employment during the summer. 

 

The pre-requisites for appointment are an excellent knowledge of Latin and a suitable level of basic computer literacy.  Preference may be given to candidates with some knowledge of ancient or New Testament Greek and/or of introductory linguistics. A general interest in the Latin Bible will be an advantage.
