Location and history:

For the history cf. nos. {82} and {83} - This stone is assigned no. 6 in the collection of the Cork U.C. As against its former arrangement as shown in Macalister's draft, the stone has been set up invertedly so that the original top can no longer be inspected.

Size according to Macalister, CIIC: 4'4 1/2" x 1'1 1/2" x 0'8".

Published illustrations:
Macalister, CIIC 1, 88 (draft).

Reading Macalister, CIIC:

BRANAN MAQI OQOLI
Three notches of the final I are cut in both the two angles meeting in the upper corner.

Interpretation Korolev, DP, 68:

BRANAN MAQI OQOLI
This is a typically "archaising" inscription. Is BRANAN apocopated from *Branagni? The inscription dates from the second half of the 6th cent.

Reading McManus, Guide 65:

BRANAN MAQI oQOLI

Reading Gippert (1981):

"Sinister angle", down:
BRANAN MAQI O(Q)OL[I

Instead of OQOLI, a reading UCOLI seems also possible; for this cp. the name read as DRUTIQULI by Macalister in no. {87}, from the same site.
